transformation sunday. . . one year. that’s the the difference between these photos. it took me almost 5 months after this to start my fitness journey. I gave up on myself. I never thought I’d be back to my pre baby body. I never thought I would be someone who works out multiple days a week. . . I worked hard. I showed up. I had times I had to pause and take a break. I had to modify. I had to modify the shit out of these workouts. Sometimes I still do. I know it’s hard, I promise I do. I know it’s hard to choose yourself. To choose your health. one day it’ll click. You’ll be so low, and it’ll drive you. . . I can’t wait to see what the new year has in store for me. New friends. New bootcamp. New program. New goals.

That’s a wrap! 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼 . My second program ever is complete as of this morning! . . Poundage and inches wise not a single digit changed from 4 weeks ago, but strength and agility wise 🌑 and 🌝 difference. . . Each Friday and Saturday we did the exact same moves for the same amount of time and recorded our scores. That way we could track our non scale progresses. . . Our last set on strength day was a squat/push up challenge. 10 squats to 1 push up then 9 squats to 2 push ups all the way down to 1 squat to 10 push ups—for time. Sounds killer. Not gonna lie, it is. 🤷🏼‍♀️ . . My first week took me 3:03 to complete the whole challenge. I wanted to do every push up on my toes, but I had to move to my knees for the last 5. . . Today, I completed the challenge in 2:12!!!!! That’s almost a minute faster guys!!!! Aaaaaand every single push up was done on my toes. With out even considering my knees!!! . . There’s something special about finishing a program from start to finish. Not to say there weren’t set backs, it actually took me longer to do this program than written because #momlife. . . But this journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation happens. That’s how changed occurs. . . Gearing up for my next program (which has a test group opportunity 🤩) You in?

There was some healthyish holiday treat making going down in the kitchen today, and I was going to wait and post these Cashew Coconut Cookie Dough Protein Bites on the blog but… I’m impatient and needed to share NOW. 📢 They’re a good protein-on-the-go option thanks to the grass-fed collagen peptides, and they’re also paleo, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar free! ~ 🍪Cashew Coconut Cookie Dough Bites🍪 (makes 6 larger or 12 mini bites) ~ What you need: 1/4 cup @navitasorganics raw organic cashews 3 tbsp coconut flakes 3 tbsp almond flour 3 tbsp @thrivemkt grass-fed collagen peptides 1/3 cup cashew butter 1 tbsp raw honey or maple syrup 1 tbsp coconut oil 1/2 tsp vanilla extract a little water as needed, if the dough seems too dry ~ What do to: Put the cashews and coconut flakes in a food processor and whirl until they look like a coarse flour. Add the almond flour and collagen, and whirl to combine. Pour in all remaining ingredients and continue processing until the mixture turns into a dough. Remove the dough from the processor and work it into a ball with your hands. If it seems too crumbly, add a little bit of extra melted coconut oil or water. Roll into 6 balls (or 12 if making minis). Store in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 1 week, or keep frozen. 🍪

Happy Hanukkah! חַג שָׂמֵחַ 🕎 This week, I made latkes and matzo ball soup to celebrate! I have some very strong opinions when it comes to these favorites: 1) latkes should always be fried, never baked. 2) latke mixes are 🤢, avoid at all costs 3) sour cream AND apple sauce. Always. 4) matzo ball soup should still have allll the other goodness—carrots, celery, onion, rotisserie chicken, and egg noodles. 5) you gotta serve it with fresh dill!

Won't have time to meal prep the next couple weekends so I made a big batch of chicken n veggie soup to freeze. This week week, for lunch, I'll have 2 days of the soup plus an empanada. And 3 days of guisado (or as I grew up calling it guisao). I make a semi healthier version with ground Turkey rather than ground beef and add zucchini for extra veggies and serve it over brown rice rather than white. 4 years ago I took a leap of a lifetime and despite my chronic health issues, debilitating doubts, fears & insecurities + nearly a decade of dieting, losing a lot of weight, gaining a lot of weight, binging, restricting, taking laxatives, counting my calories & being obsessed with the number on the scale...I decided to follow something deep down in my heart that I didn’t even fully understand at the time & go back to school for nutrition & the psychology of eating. - You may not know this about me but I used to be an actor. And while all my friends had “real jobs” I worked at Anthropologie, was a hostess at Saddleranch (that was the worst) & Lululemon. - I launched my nutrition & mindset coaching business in 2015. I didn’t exactly know what I was doing in the beginning. And I tried to give up about 100 times. I’ve cried in a ball on the floor quite a bit. Sat on the phone & online chats with custom support teams for endless hours, put myself out there & taught workshops, led grocery story tours, created a group program overnight, a meal prep business, one-day coaching intensives. I went from coaching clients in a 6 week program to a 90 day program. And then having clients re-book with me for another 90 days after that. I gathered testimonial after testimonial. Success story after success story. - It wasn’t that long ago I told myself I WILL ALWAYS STRUGGLE WITH FOOD AND I WILL ALWAYS HATE MY BODY. It wasn’t that long ago that I would binge on Sunday nights so I could clean up my act and be good on Monday. I would throw food away so I wouldn’t eat all of it. I would take sleeping pills & sleep late so I could skip breakfast or even lunch. I was unfulfilled & UNHAPPY. - Do I still have my crap. YES. I still have stuff I’ve never forgiven myself for. Old lingering limiting beliefs. Imperfect relationships. Pain. Lyme disease. Bad days. Am really sensitive and take everything personally. - But I keep going. And I will always keep going. Because I’m here for a BIGGER purpose. To serve. Inspire. Help. Support. My mess is now my message. I keep going so no woman has to spend ONE more day at war with food & her body.🧡✌🏼

Things that make me go 😳: Today as I stood in the master bedroom folding freshly laundered towels, I overheard my 6-year-old, Luke, walk into the kitchen + ask “Wanna play strip poker??” Things that make me go 🤤: Pounded Chicken + Salsa Cruda. Not gonna say I’m above playing strip poker if this is the grand prize. 🤔 How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring • • 1. I cut 4 chicken breasts in half lengthwise + then pounded them flat with a meat mallet between two sheets of parchment. 2. Lightly coated chicken on both sides with gluten-free all-purpose flour (regular flour works too, or cassava would be good for grain-free) mixed with a couple good pinches of sea salt + some pepper. 3. Sautéed in batches, a couple/few min per side in @vitalfarms butter in a cast iron skillet, until golden on both sides, adding butter as needed between batches. Kept warm in the toaster oven on warm setting. 4. Salsa Cruda: While the chicken was cooking, in the food processor, I added 1 28 oz can @muirglen whole fire-roasted tomatoes + 5-6 peeled garlic cloves + a large handful of flat leaf parsley + a couple handfuls of fresh basil + about 1/4 cup or so of olive oil + about 1/4 cup freshly grated parm-regg + a couple good pinches of sea salt + a little pepper + pulsed until it was a salsa consistency. 5. When all the chicken was done + set aside, in the same skillet in a little more butter + the juice of 1/2 a lemon, I wilted some chopped chard. 6. Served chicken topped with salsa cruda + with chard on the side. 🤤👌🏼

I don’t normally post photos at the gym because as soon as I take a photo, I’ll find at least something that I wish I could change in the photo of myself. I barely do it because the gym is my happy place. The place where no negative thoughts should be consumed. But also somewhere that we can feel most vulnerable. We’re the first to judge ourselves. We’re the first to see the smallest detail in ourselves. We’re the first to say something looks bad on us. We’re the first to say “I need to workout” “I need to stop eating so badly”. But the truth is, nobody else sees this in us. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen girls (myself included) look at themselves in the mirror of the change room and then automatically alter their expression. I think social media is great but I also think that we compare ourselves physically more than ever now. To be honest, I don’t often get these thoughts but lately it’s been creeping up on me. I think it’s pale life setting in and also not being in the clearest mental state during these colder months. I’m not looking for any attention for this, I just want to be honest and raw and hoping you guys can relate. 💛 we’ve got this! Instead of looking at what you can change in the mirror, what do you love about yourself when you look into the mirror? I love how much I’ve been able to organically change my body for the better. I love my big eyes. I love my strong legs. It feels weird to say these things about ourselves, but it should be practiced every single day. What about you? Some nights I cook simple & healthy meals. Other nights (read: most weekends) I try to go to new restaurants. On Saturday we had a progressive date night around Columbus. We started at @thekeepcolumbus for drinks then headed to @thesycamoregv for a delicious meal! We got the spaghetti squash fritters to start which were incredibly delicious. Tasted a little cheesy so I only had a few bites but wow yum definitely recommend 😍 You really can’t go wrong with anything on that menu! ✨ What are your favorite spots around Columbus?! Spent Sunday afternoon making Bolognese and it was downright dreamy ✨🦄☁️ Even though the rest of the plate was entirely vegetables (spaghetti squash and crispy kale.. but also a lot of kerrygold butter) it tasted decadent and rich. I also ♥️ spaghetti squash and don't make it enough. I used a mix of ground pork, turkey, and sirloin to lighten up the Bolognese without compromising flavor. Cuz this is how we are in other areas of our lives, isn't it? We wanna be our absolute best. • But this can totally backfire with our health and fitness. We try to be perfect, then fall off the wagon, feel guilty, and start dieting again. This is exhausting and is 100% why we keep struggling. • So lovely, take the pressure off. Be imperfect. lately i have found myself missing simpler times. i have been feeling all sort of emotions this week. most of them have been kind of heavyyyy, man. feeling sad, frustrated, stressed, overwhelmed, etc. part of it is just that time of the semester when things get kicked into overdrive, and part of it is just life. and sometimes life is hard, and its hard to get yourself out of bed to go forward with your day, and its hard to focus, and its hard to keep your shit together, and its hard to be a functioning human being. heavy feelings are apart of this deal we get. when i have these weeks i really try and put my focus onto something else, something better. i remember things that make me happy, and it helps for a minute or two, but eventually the emotions come back. and what i’ve realized this week, is that the most comforting thing to do when i feel heaviness is to just feel it. to let it sit with me and to try to understand it. work through it myself, and get to the root of it. maybe you will and maybe you won’t get to the bottom of it, that’s not really the point. the point is to just allow yourself the space to feel what you are feeling, and to remember that it will pass, and life will get lighter. you’ll stop feeling heavy and it will get easier again.

MY FAV HEALTHY'ISH STARBUCKS RECCOS: ☕️☕️☕️ I swear, I don't work for Starbucks(although I may as well with the amount of time I spend there!), but the number one question I get asked each week is "what should I order from Starbucks that's healthy and yummy"? And I say "yeah, I gotchu".😏 . 1. LOW SUGAR/LESS SWEET OPTIONS: try asking for no "classic syrup" and adding 1-2 pumps of real vanilla to your drink instead. I like my regular coffee a bit sweet too, so instead of adding sugar, I ask them to add 1 pump of vanilla to my coffee. . 2. HIGH FAT/KETO FRIENDLY: when you order your coffee, ask the barista for "heavy cream" on the bar. Heavy cream is 35% whipping cream, which is high fat, and 0-1g of carbs(great for managing blood sugar!). I usually ask for 1 tall coffee, with 1 pump of vanilla(because I still enjoy a little sweetness) + heavy cream on the bar and I add in however much I want into my coffee. . 3 DAIRY-FREE OPTIONS: this is one you have to be careful with if you're truly sensitive to dairy, because unfortunately a lot of their "pre-mixes" contain dairy. Again, asking for vanilla syrup is a safe bet, instead of any type of classic syrup or mixes they use, and I find coconut milk pairs well with any coffee or espresso-based drinks(there's almond milk and soy milk of course too, but I find coconut milk the best taste-wise when it comes to my coffee). Give a gift with no expectation of one in return. Bring a friend a coffee. Give a stranger a compliment. Help a mom bring her groceries to her car. Say an extra thank you to those who serve you. . I don’t care if it’s your day 1 or your day 1080, please just START. Commit to YOU. Your health, your happiness, your life balance is worth investing in. . I spend the majority of my time pouring into others (teaching math, coaching sports, fitness coaching, etc.) and helping OTHERS achieve results. Today I’m recommitting to myself alongside all of the women I help on the daily and saying NO EXCUSES this holiday season . The past 3 hours have been spent working - sending welcome emails, getting our prep week posts set up, chatting with my coaches (SWIPE for their progress pics!!) and following up with my November clients 💪🏼 . You might be waiting until January 1, but we want to be 3 weeks ahead of that. We are deciding that our health is WORTH it. (& for 44 cents a day, yours is too) . Starfish Story While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean. As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water. He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?” The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.” The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.” Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!” The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”
